Welcome to Braids & Beyond
Home – Braids & Beyond: A Summer Skill-Building
Program for Youth
Braids & Beyond is a community-driven summer program empowering youth ages 7–17 through hands-on hair-braiding and styling education. Our mission is to foster creativity, self-expression, and cultural appreciation while providing a safe, fun, and empowering space for learning.
Program Highlights
Participants explore braiding as both an art form and a cultural tradition through interactive workshops, mentorship, and community showcases. The program builds skills, confidence, and entrepreneurial awareness while celebrating diversity and cultural heritage.
Key Training Activities Include:
- Scalp Maintenance & Sanitation – Proper hygiene and parting methods
- Breakage Prevention – Techniques to maintain healthy hair
- Basic Braiding, Box Braids, & Knotless Braids – Hands-on braiding skills
- Cornrows & Hairstyles – Creative styling and design
- Shampooing – Proper hair washing and care
What’s Included
Each participant receives the tools and support to succeed:
- Mannequin Head – For hands-on practice
- Braid Starter Kit – Essential braiding tools
- Hair Care Education – Guidance on hair maintenance and hygiene
- Certificate of Completion – Recognition of their skills and achievements
Crown Celebration
At the end of the program, participants showcase their skills at our Crown Celebration event. This community gathering honors creativity, cultural heritage, and connection while inspiring peers to celebrate their unique identities.
Who Can Join
The program welcomes youth ages 7–17 from diverse backgrounds, especially those seeking a positive, creative summer learning experience. Braids & Beyond supports cultural education, artistic growth, and youth empowerment in an inclusive and accessible setting.
